EMDR Intensive Frequently Asking Questions

Who Can Benefit From EMDR In Eureka, CA?

EMDR addresses negative patterns in our lives that are hard to shift by finding the present triggers and connecting them to past memories that fuel the pattern so that as our memories and triggers are reprocessed, the pattern can shift. We can then with EMDR envision a future where we have all the tools we need to handle stressors successfully, this helps to change the pattern in the future as well.

Why Do An Intensive Instead Of A Normal 50 Minute Session?

EMDR Intensives allow the opportunity to progress through your symptoms and have more healing in less time as the time is not interrupted in the ways a 50 minute session is (processing one memory on average takes 90 minutes). An Intensive format may decrease time in treatment as time is not spent on checking in, addressing current crises and concerns, focused on stabilization and coping skills that you won’t need after healing or assisting in regaining composure at the end of a session as you will have time to work through a memory or trigger fully.

If I’m Already A Weekly Client, Can I Participate In An EMDR Intensive?

Yes. EMDR Intensives for current clients are available in modified formats and pricing.

If I Already Have A Private Therapist Can I Do An EMDR Intensive As Adjunct Therapy?

Yes. Perhaps you’ve felt a sense that something profound has yet to change, but your not quite sure how to shift all the way into a new experience of yourself with your current therapist. Maybe you now understand new things, yet your body is still confused, so you’re curious about how adjunct EMDR Intensive therapy can help. We will identify what format is best for you during your initial consultation.

What Can I Expect To Accomplish In A Half Day Intensive In Eureka, CA?

A half day intensive offers a multitude of resources and can help either increase performance and confidence or significantly decrease the devastating effects of single event trauma (negative thoughts, disturbing emotions, and body sensations). While significant healing can happen in one half day intensive, complex PTSD deserves more treatment than one half day intensive. Many of my clients that experience complex PTSD work on their trauma histories through monthly, bimonthly, or quarterly half day intensives.

What Can I Expect To Accomplish In A 3- Day Intensive?

Participating in a 3 day EMDR Intensive may create impactful change more efficiently than just weekly, 50 minute sessions, or even a half day intensive as you can do 3x the work of a half day intensive. We will identify what format is best for you during your intiial consultation.

Can My Insurance Help Pay For This Program?

Yes. Many insurance companies reimburse a significant portion of the cost of therapy. For insurances I cover, such as Partnership, Medicare, Blue Cross, and Blue Shield, they will cover the pre and post intensive meetings, but not the intensive portion fully. For other insurances I am considered an out of network provider. It is best to determine the exact details of your policy ahead of time, including what benefits are available regarding out of network providers and if your insurance will reimburse several hours of therapy in one day or one week. I will provide you a superbill for all direct contact therapy services included in the program.
