EMDR Child Intensives- Help Your Child Heal More Quickly in Less Time With No Weekly Commitment Which Helps It Fit Into Your Schedule.

You can’t believe what is happening with your child. You can see your child falling apart, freaking out, becoming needy and sad, or shutting down. They used to be so active and playful and now they seem listless and just stare or seem so scared and have meltdowns. They may even call for you every time you leave a room due to how fearful they are of something bad happening. You’ve tried so hard to help them talk to you, held them, reassured them, but they either won’t or can’t tell you what’s wrong so you don’t know how to help. It destroys you to see them this way with that fear and sadness on their face. It’s breaking you heart when you see your child get triggered by everyday issues that relate to their memories of their bad experiences or traumas. You can see they are emotionally flooded and agitated, but feel unable to help. You may have even researched ways to help, but it feels beyond what you can do.

You don’t want to continue to watch them suffer and you see them having reactions out of proportion to what is happening often. It feels unbearable to watch this pattern happen over and over. You worry all the time about them and you feel paralyzed, as though nothing you do matters. You are so worried you may even have difficulty functioning or sleeping yourself. You see them doubting themselves and their decisions. You can see how on edge they are and how they expect danger around any corner. It feels like they are constantly being retriggered. You tell yourself you should be able to handle this and help them, but the fact is they are struggling and so are you and it doesn’t feel fair to them or your family to let this continue to happen. You know you need help from someone who knows more about how to help with this.

Your child deserves some space to heal and it does not have to be a once a week commitment.

Intensives allow your child to do a large chunk of work all at once that can relieve how they feel by doing half day intensives (3 hours). You can also schedule multiple intensives to accomplish even more work or schedule or 1-2 intensives a month over a longer period of time (such as 3 months).

My name is Crysta Durrett and I specialize in helping children, youth, and families with anxiety, depression, trauma or PTSD related issues learn to cope with how they feel and reconnect with their families and friends by addressing the pain that is limiting them.

I use evidence based trauma informed interventions to help your child calm their brain and body, enjoy the present moment more, and to feel more connected to friends and family. I work with your child to build their strengths and heal their hurts. I am a Certified EMDR Therapist and I am trained in Play and Art Therapy as well which complements the work we do in EMDR. I am here and ready to help you and your child.

If you are ready to prioritize healing your child’s past hurts and get more work done on resolving their traumas, the first step to starting this journey of healing, is calling to schedule your free consultation or you can go to the contact page to request your free phone consultation for an intensive. If you want to learn more about EMDR, you can read more about it here.

Still Have Questions? Here’s How An Intensive Works.

What Can I Expect From An Intensive?

What you can expect in an intensives is that it will start with an assessment to see what your child’s needs are, will work on building strengths or coping skills through play and art therapy to help prepare them for trauma work, and then they will do the trauma work. Time is left at the end to close up any incomplete work and help them close the intensive feeling resourced and more able to cope with their thoughts, feelings, and past traumas. You will also have access to talk to the therapist between intensive sessions as needed.

So Who Gets The Most Benefit From Intensives?

  • Children or youth with multiple traumas that want to get more work done at one time,

  • Those that have difficulty scheduling weekly therapy due to other commitments, but want to address the past hurts that continue to impact their child,

  • Those that are already seeing a therapist, but want to do more trauma work at one time to compliment the work they are doing with their main therapist. This is beneficial as you can get more EMDR done as you are not catching up on the week before at the beginning of sessions and you have more time to work through traumas.

    The Intensive Process:

Intake Session:

  • Here’s where we find out what you want to work on in your EMDR Intensive.

  • During or prior to this session, we also set up your client portal access which includes access to consent forms, so you can take your time reviewing the consent forms.

Coping Skill Sessions (Optional):

These can be helpful if you and your child want to do an intensive, but are concerned they do not yet have all the coping skills they need to be ready to go into working on their memories. Your therapist will work with you, doing as many coping skill sessions as needed so your child can begin their intensive feeling confident in their coping skills and fully ready to do the memory work.

 Intensive Day (Half Day Intensive):

    • In Hour 1, they will work on accessing for any dissociation and developing coping skills to help them cope with their thoughts, feelings, and trauma related symptoms as well as prepare them for trauma work. We will also develop the list of memories to be worked on.

    • In your Hour 2 and 3, they will do trauma work and address past traumas.

    • Toward the end of Hour 3, they will contain any work that could not be completed and work on resources to help them leave the intensive feeling proud of the work they accomplished and more able to cope with their past and daily life stressors.

    End of Intensive

  • At the end of the intensive, they will review their goals to ensure both they and you are satisfied with the progress they have made and that the work we have done together has met their and your expectations.

  • We will also discuss if the work you both wanted to do is complete or if you both are wanting to do any additional intensives or other kinds of therapy.

What Is The Cost Of An Intensive?

Just like other major medical procedures such as surgery, intensives are a financial investment in your child and their health. Although you will be investing a larger amount upfront, you will have a fixed cost (that is typically less money in the long run) to work with rather than the unknown expense of ongoing weekly therapy. With EMDR Intensives not only do you save time, but you save money as well. I currently offer half day intensives for children or youth for three hours at $500.
